WHAT DOES PETER PAN AND ASSERTIVE COMMUNICATION HAVE IN COMMON?

By getting to know about Peter Pan's story, we also learn about his personality: a boy who liked being the gang's leader as much as he liked being right, even when he was not right. Peter was bossy and vengeful! He didn't forgive the ones who didn't want to play with him or didn't want to play the way he wanted to. Peter is an exaggerated stereotype of a boastful and careless boy. He claims greatness, even when such claims are questionable (such as congratulating himself when Wendy re-attaches his shadow). Peter symbolizes the selfishness of childhood and is portrayed as being forgetful and self-centered. Knowing that picture a company team leader just like him! Most of times we can put our "Peter Pan" at his place in our lives. However, sometimes we allow Peter Pan to react to our life situations and when we realize we have already said or done what we shouldn't have.

Because of that we need to ask ourselves who is reacting to a situation, our adult self or the "Peter Pan" who is inside us? Picture yourself reacting as Peter Pan. It would surely be a disaster!

Because of that we have been discussing how we should be aware of the way we react to situations and people avoiding hurting them by saying whatever we want. Assertive Communication is a training we have had to help ourselves to deal better with our social and professional conflicts.
